Deafheaven surprised us with their new record Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. Starting in 2011 with the release of Roads To Judah, everyone believed that the band from North America already had their magnum opus with Sunbather. The aforementioned record changed modern black metal and is already one of the most iconic records of the 2010s. Because of this, the band became a highly appreciated act with their own style of blackgaze. 2015’s New Bermuda was a nasty and heavy record that focused more on riffs But Deafheaven‘s number four is just… stunning! This is evidenced by the video Deafheaven just released. Watch it here:
“Night People” features vocals by Chelsea Wolfe. The almost acoustic song stands out with very fragile vocals and a duet between Chelsea and George Clarke. The omnipresent piano adds a balladesque feel to the song. Though the accompanying video is straightforward, it conveys the feeling of the song in a creative way. Our editor Dominik nailed the description of “Night People” in his review, calling it ‘stunning, melancholic, and fiercely vulnerable‘!
However, this isn’t all the Deafheaven news for the day! The band also announced a North American run with DIIV. DIIV are a New York-based shoegaze band whose aesthetic clearly complements the direction of Deafheaven‘s new record. DIIV just released Is The Is Are, their second full length album, in 2016 and are going to be co-headlining with Deafheaven on this tour.
