If I had to designate any specific form of music to represent the sheer and transient ecstasy of finally relieving a long-held, nearly bursting bladder, it would easily be non-English screamo/skramz for me. I already have a strong proclivity towards this subgenre as a whole, but it simply being in another language unlocks another wealth of vocal sounds and uniquely different lived experiences, all whilst still capturing the universal anguish and trauma that comes with the human condition as that doesn’t care what language you speak or not. There is something to be said about undecipherable vocals being even more, well, undecipherable, and Demersal are here to deliver the euphoric goods with their newest single, “Du Ligner Din Far”; you can listen to an exclusive premiere of this song before it officially releases right here!
Demersal is a Danish quartet that first caught my eye (or rather, ear) with their self-titled album back in 2024; I was smitten ever since. Their following release, Vi kunne ikke blive her for evigt, vel? kept that ferocious momentum moving forward. Even since then, they’ve yet to show any signs of slowing down, especially if their newest single is an indication of what is to come. Here is what the band had to say about their latest effort:
‘“Du Ligner Din Far” (translated “You Look Like Your Father”) offers a first glimpse into a larger forthcoming release exploring the rise of conservative, insular ideals of masculinity and how loneliness and powerlessness can curdle into hatred and alienation. The song portrays a male influencer who preys on lonely men, drawing them into a world of manipulation and hate.‘
Right from the get-go, “Du Ligner Din Far” is tough as nails, but it doesn’t take long for Demersal to reveal their tender side, with bubbly guitar arpeggios and tender clean vocals whisking you way, all before it descends back into unadulterated rage and adolescent confusion due to the unavoidable ‘influencer’ propaganda. The last half of that clean passage in particular (from 0:47 to 0:55) is so immensely satisfying with the delicately layered and transient background vocals that ascend my spirit to the heavens; I’m desperately hoping that the eventual full release that this track is a part of features more of that. Honestly though, the fact it is such a fleeting moment makes me appreciate it all the more; I’ve lost track how many times I replayed just that 8 second segment alone. This isn’t to say that rest of the track isn’t killer because it most definitely is!
Although I have 99+ problems in my life at any given moment (as we all do), a new Demersal release (or any release for that matter) won’t necessarily fix any of them directly, but it’ll make having to cope with it all on a daily basis worth it, and then some. If you liked what you heard, you’ll want to stay in the loop on all things Demersal as I can feel it in my bones that a full album announcement is coming soon! Give their socials (Facebook | Instagram | Bandcamp) a follow if you know what’s good for you.
