French prog / post metal avantgardeists Hypno5e are back! After an fully acoustic record in 2018, the band has been working on a new metal record the last months. A Distant (Dark) Source is going to be released on November 22 via Pelagic Records.
Consisting of eleven tracks, Hypno5e keep delivering very long songs divided into three parts. One of these three-part monuments just got released as an 18-minute video, as well as a digital-EP on all streaming platforms. “A Distant Dark Source”, the title track on the record, delivers a dark and depressive feeling.
The record tells the story of an inward journey to the land of the ghosts of the past. The old Paleolithic lake Tauca, located in Bolivia (singer Emmanuel Jessua grew up there), is the origin of the Distant (Dark) Source. The lake disappeared more than 15.000 years ago and left arid land and salt lakes behind. As stated in the official press-release:
‘A Distant (Dark) Source is the musical imagination of a night in this desert, during which the old shores of the lake see the return of the shadows of the people who used to live in this area before its disappearance. A man comes back to the lake to look for the shadow of the woman he loved. The album tells the story of this ephemeral return.’
“A Distant Dark Source” perfectly sums up Hypno5e‘s uniqueness. The very organic sound is surrounded by a lot of voice-samples , creating a very cinematic vibe. No wonder that Hypno5e are often described as cinematic-metal. The song also features one of the nastiest breakdowns the band has had so far.
The tracklist of A Distant (Dark) Source will be the following:
1. On The Dry Lake
2. In The Blue Glow Of Dawn – Part I
3. In The Blue Glow Of Dawn – Part II
4. In The Blue Glow Of Dawn – Part III
