Boy howdy have we got some news for you US and Canadian folks today! It’s the kind of news that has me cursing the 8000 kilometres between me and you: Amorphis just announced a whole heap of shows in North America. You might be thinking ‘cool, so Amorphis are touring the States again, big deal – they were only there last year‘. But here’s why this tour has me green with envy: they will be performing Tales from the Thousand Lakes in full. Fuck. Yeah!
The Finnish progressive metal act have been consistently and tirelessly active since their formation 30 years ago, with a discography of 13 studio releases and a staggering number of live concerts under their belts. Possibly their most well-known album, 1994’s Tales from the Thousand Lakes, is a concept album based on the Finnish national epic poem, the Kalevala. It is considered a milestone in melodic death metal, and rightly so – Tales from the Thousand Lakes takes influence from folk, doom, and progressive rock, and in turn influenced a heap of bands. And now you have the opportunity to see it live!
As if this wasn’t awesome enough, joining them will be Swedish death metal crew Entombed A.D., as well as Brazilian thrash power trio Nervosa, two undeniably ruthless bands. This tour is going to kick absolute ass.
