Dysrhythmia, the pioneering instrumental prog-metal trio from the US, have announced their eighth album Terminal Threshold, set to release on October 4 through Translation Loss Records. Accompanying the news, the first single “Twin Stalkers” was also premiered, through Decibel Magazine.
Dysrhythmia as a band should be common knowledge by now. Facilely depicted, their sound is an aggregation of avant-gardistic fusion of progressive metal with elements of jazz and experimental compositions. With their roots stretching back to 1998 and having released material in a good pace for twenty years, the bands imprint on their branch of music is a significant one. Being associated to such acts as Gorguts, Krallice and Behold… The Arctopus to name a few, their members operate in various fields of music; Kevin Hufnagel’s most recent work being a movie soundtrack, while Colin Marston is renowned through his producer and production works. Evolving over time as all bands should, Dysrhythmia is a group whose doings should be monitored closely.
“Twin Stalkers” is a colourful puzzle, a joyful piece of digestable prog that sets elevated expectations for the album. Based on this one track alone, the eerie and haunting tones from their previous album The Veil of Control have been adapted into a more driving and uplifting setting. While being a song built on top of a freestyle dance influenced programmed drum beats, the mood is as organic and human as you might expect it to be. Dysrhythmia excels in writing accessible and easily approachable music through thoughtful and difficult means, and the new track isn’t an exception to that. If you haven’t already, get your brain twisted by the staggering track from below. If you have, you might as well hit repeat.
