Though Czarface shouldn’t need an introduction, I will do so anyway. A supergroup combining members of two of underground hip-hop’s rawest collectives: Army of the Pharaohs and Wu-Tang Clan. From AOTP is Boston MC Esoteric, along with his DJ 7L, and from Wu-Tang is Inspectah Deck. DJ 7L joins forces again with Jeremy Page as the moniker Czar-Keys, who produces every song on the album. Czarface has released five albums since 2013, and their last one, Czarface Meets Metal Face, featured the legendary MC MF Doom.
So, Czarface clearly has a thing for working with rappers with ‘Face’ in their name. With the addition of Ghostface Killah on the forthcoming record, Czarface Meets Ghostface, set to come out February 15, 2019, Inspectah Deck will be reunited with his long-time Wu-Tang collaborator. Pre-orders and bundles have already been made available for purchase here.
I’ve been following Czarface since their debut album, and they don’t drop anything but fire, and Ghostface on every song sure isn’t going to hurt either. If you like extremely clever bars with boom-bap beats, I suggest checking out Czarface‘s back catalog until their new album comes out next year. The tracklist (not yet including features) is below:
01. Back at Ringside
02. Face Off
03. Iron Claw
04. Czarrcade ’87
05. Powers and Stuff
06. Masked Superstars
07. Morning Ritual
08. Super Soldier Serum
09. The King Heard Voices
10. Listen to the Color
11. Mongolian Beef
12. (Post Credits Scene)
I don’t know what direction Czarface will be going next, but I wouldn’t mind an album with Houston MC Scarface. Whether or not that happens, we have Czarface Meets Ghostface to keep us busy during the first quarter of 2019!
You can follow Czarface on 7L & Esoteric‘s Facebook, and Inspectah Deck‘s on his Facebook. All of the bundles for Czarface Meets Ghostface are available for pre-order here.
