Sometimes it’s tough to pinpoint exactly why I love the music that I do. Sometimes it’s the charm, sometimes it’s the riffs. In the case of Psychonaut, it’s kind of everything. Hailing from Belgium, this band weaves intricate post-metal compositions from intricate ideas and a hypnotic, intoxicating atmosphere that rival the titans in the genre. I’m happily writing this premiere to help showcase just how well they have refined their craft. Please check out the video for “Kabuddah” from their upcoming release Unfold the God Man on Pelagic Records.
Pretty great right? The dual vocal approach works absolute wonders and helps differentiate them even more in this space. This perfectly complements their overwhelming wall of sound that is a full-on assault that takes only seconds to ramp up to in this six-minute song. The band’s fascination with consciousness, religion, and philosophy will be on full display on Unfold the God Man, with winks and nods to all of these throughout the record in obvious and some less conspicuous ways. From song titles, right down to some clever tunings, there is layer upon layer of cohesion that is baked into this post-metal release proving that Psychonaut is a band with enormous talent and limitless potential.
I cannot wait until this album gets into even more hands when it’s released on March 6. Their energy and unique approach deserves a wider audience. Be sure to head to Pelagic’s website to get started with your preorder of Unfold the God Man and be sure to check out the band on Instagram and Facebook to follow them for news and updates!
