I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Premiering awesome new music is one of the best things about writing here at Everything Is Noise, and today that is certainly no exception! We are happy to present the new single from the lovely Icelandic duo Vil, by way of ListenRecords. “Hvor drømmene” is the haunting and enchanting first single off the newly announced EP På den sidste dag, which will come out February 13 of this year. After hearing this single, I am really glad we don’t have to wait long to hear the rest of this release.

“Hvor drømmene” is a slow burn. The minimal elements in the composition highlight a quiet intensity and make the small details of this track shine. The ambient synth notes that play in the background are ethereal, warbling in waves that will give you chills with a good pair of headphones on. At the forefront of the song are the vocals which are practically a chant, and there is a pleading sense to them that really gives it the affecting tone that carries the track. There’s a bit of Chelsea Wolfe in the singing style, but Vil feels so incredibly unique that it feels rather unfair to try to compare them to too much else.
Vil has taken their time getting everything right with På den sidste dag. They haven’t been playing many live shows or doing much else, as they used the solitude of their homes to craft this newest artistic piece. This truly is art in music at its finest, and the wonderfully creative video that goes along with “Hvor drømmene” is like a scene from the kind of cinema that turns heads at film festivals. All together, this is a really lovely and interesting piece that has a lot going on with just a little effort due to the quality of it.
