We’ve got a delightful album to serve up to our listeners today, packed full of great riffs, catchy hooks, and intricate songwriting. Giant Sleep is back with their third album Grounded To The Sky, a prog epic that conjures comparisons to heavy metal greats and prog metal legends, whilst very much carving out their own niche, as they lean heavily on doomy elements.
With a full album review coming from yours truly in a few days, I won’t be deep diving into each track and the elements I love just right now, but let me tell you, Grounded To The Sky has it all. Transitioning gracefully from foot-stomping, head-banging riffs into twisting, introspective guitar noodles, you’ll find yourself sucked into the instrumentation just as much as the killer vocals. The pipes on lead singer Thomas Rosenmerkel are magnificent, reminding me distinctly of Chris Cornell and his rich baritone. Like the aforementioned, he can blast through those levels though, hitting massive highs and really opening up the sound palette.
Giant Sleep came together in 2012, after the collapse of a few of the members’ previous bands. The band very much acted as a vessel for the members to channel their love of classic rock into a project. They distinctly pushed back on the vintage feel, though, with their sound more in line with bands like Amplifier in their modern approach to the genre. Grounded To The Sky comprises eight tracks, each with a distinct flavour to each of them. So without further ado, please enjoy Everything Is Noise’s full album stream of Ground To The Sky!
On my side, I absolutely love the monster title track and epic “Shadow Walker”. But then again, I have a very soft spot for the bluesy “Cemetery Story” too… let us know which is your favourite, and what you think of the album in the comments!
Grounded To The Sky releases on January 27 via Czar of Crickets. Of course, make sure to follow Giant Sleep on all the links below.
