From the time of its initial announcement until this very moment, one of the most anticipated albums of the year at Everything Is Noise has been Suspended In Reflections by Ancestors. In the past few weeks, we’ve been privileged to premiere a few tracks from the record. Today though, we’re honored to premiere a stream of the album in its entirety. As expected, this record is something genuinely special.
Combining post-metal and jazz with lush vocals and dense soundscapes, this is a record that will certainly end up on a lot of AOTY watchlists. In the six years since the band’s last album, there have been a few changes, including a leaner lineup and a more collaborative focus on the songwriting process. Guitarist and vocalist Justin Maranga had this to say about how Ancestors approached the new album:
‘I think that as songwriters we’ve grown exponentially over the past six years but the most important change was the removal of ego from the writing and recording process. We tried to step out from behind our respective instruments to write the best album we could. We made a beautiful record as a team.’
On the album new album stream, the band added the following:
‘It’s been a long journey from the last album to here, for those that have been waiting for it we commend your patience and thank you for your support. We’re thrilled to finally be able to share the album in it’s entirety, which is altogether elevated experience to hearing the individual songs (or so we think).’
