Boston-based progressive metallers Protean Collective may not be a household name just yet, but today we’re doing our part to change that. We’re happy to be premiering a new full-band playthrough of “Under Siege” from their latest LP, Collapse. The video features the entire band playing through this slick composition and is one of the more interesting takes on a playthrough video I have seen in some time. But don’t take my word for it, take a look for yourself.

What’s clear is that Protean Collective knows how to write an interesting, progressive composition but still retain relatable melodies. There are times when I hear bits of Cynic and a little Soen in their DNA, but their sound is still unique. Great bass lines, precise drumming and a sweet guitar solo make this song a showcase for the band’s talents. The vocals add a nice airy atmosphere to the overall feel of the track and are executed well from start to finish.

The album from which this song is taken, Collapse, is available now and you can pick up your very own copy at Protean Collective’s Bandcamp page in both physical and digital formats. Be sure to swing by their Facebook page and give them a like and a share to stay up to date with news on upcoming events and music!
