I’m sure we can all agree that ‘heaviness’ comes in many forms. We’ve discussed this before – it’s not all blast beats and guitars more distorted than your thoughts when you’re going to relationship woes…which is coincidentally what today’s premiere is about!
Posthumanbigbang understand the different applications of heaviness. The Swiss group was originally conceived by brothers Remo and Patrick Häberli, though now on the band’s upcoming album, Jungle Eyes, you’ll find it mostly an effort of Remo. He plays guitars, synths, sings, and adds samples and other programming accouterments, while the drums are handled by the very capable Mike Liechti. Today, we premiere the second single off Jungle Eyes called “Bury”. It’s a deep, evocative track that bears honesty and scorn on its sleeve – it’s ready for you to digest right now, but first, a little context from Remo himself:
‘“Bury” is the third chapter on the album and tells the story of a couple who has reached the bottom of their relationship. Instead of finally breaking up they are caught in their patterns and continue to pull each other down, unable to break this vicious cycle. It’s the most personal song on the new album and stands out from the others musically, rhythmically and with its storytelling character.‘
Compared to the first single, “Circles”, “Bury” definitely comes off a lot more reserved in tone and experimentation, but still carries a heavy emotional weight. It’s a song about the dissolution of love, and the mixture of potent feelings one has after breaking up – sadness, anger, confusion, and the tempestuous swinging between all of them. Not a single scream or yell is heard in the vocals, but the forlorn croon from Remo weighs heavier than any traditionally metal song ever could.
Mixed with pensive and weeping guitars, a rumbling bass reminiscent of a turbulent heart in the throes of pain, and calculated drums that crash like tears on the ground, “Bury” is immense. It’s evident from the two released tracks alone that Posthumanbigbang have quite a sonic journey planned for us on Jungle Eyes. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
If you want to “Bury” your own emotions with some retail therapy, why not support the band? You can preorder Jungle Eyes on compact disc through Plastic Head, as well as the vinyl and digital album on Bandcamp. Apple Store is yet another digital option.
