Around the time of me starting on the newest edition of THE NOISE OF, there is a crazy heat wave pummeling through Europe. Luckily, I’m on vacation on the coast of Northern Holland, so me melting down to a pulp of human sauce is avoided — which enables me to continue my tireless work to provide the finest music curation to you all, a bunch of nerds. The things I do for NOISE.
A Doll For Abigail – A Doll For Abigail
June 2 // Independent
I’m not gonna lie, at this point TNO has become at least partly a ‘best of skramz’ feature. For non-skramz lovers (weird people), I still try my best to provide other stuff, and I’m feeling a bit of skramz fatigue, but thanks to bands like A Doll For Abigail, shit is still going strong.
Hammok – When Does This Place Become Our Scene
June 5 // Sargent House
A couple of years ago, we were approached to premiere a single by Hammok, and immediately upon checking it out, I felt the mojo, the magic, the lightning in a bottle this band got in abundance. With the move to a very prolific label and the release of their new album, I wish this band all the best. When Does This Place Become Our Scene is one of my favorite albums of the year, and Hammok should be on everyone’s radar.
Converge – Hum of Hurt
June 5 // Epitaph
When Converge announced a second album in 2026 after Love Is Not Enough, I was expecting a collection of B-sides and not much more, especially after Love didn’t quite catch me the way a Converge album usually does. In a surprising turn of events, Hum of Hurt ended up being an absolute banger, and one of my favorite modern Converge albums.
Vince Staples – Cry Baby
June 5 // Loma Vista Recordings
The time for subtlety is gone. Everything about Cry Baby is straight to the point, done by an artist who knows the game and has his wits and soul together. Vince Staples has to be in the conversation as one of the most interesting names in modern rap, and this album only solidified that.
Wu-Lu & POiSON ANNA – Bakerz Dozen
June 5 // Warp Records
Tara Clerkin Trio – Somewhere Good
June 5 // World of Echo
Perry Maysun – Pathetic Beasts
June 5 // BYOBF
YHWH Nailgun – Magazine
June 11 // 4AD
New York quartet YNHW Nailgun burst into my bubble with their phenomenal debut album 45 Pounds, a menacing display of modern experimental rock which is all over the place. A little bit over a year later, the band returns with their follow-up, Magazine, which feels darker and more brooding in a way. It’s hard to describe. You have to listen for yourself.
Kalia Vandever – Mana
June 12 // International Anthem
Horse Lords – Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!
June 12 // RVNG Intl.
BIG|BRAVE – in grief or in hope
June 12 // Thrill Jockey Records
While I like BIG|BRAVE, I criticized their last couple releases for their lack of focus, meandering in random-feeling drone in the twilight of background music and artistic depth. Sparks of more have always been there, but they are bursting on in grief or in hope, marking their best record since A Gaze Among Them.
Ok Goodnight – stop/go
June 12 // Independent
Prog rock isn’t doing much for me anymore, so I’m always extra positive if some record actually does. Boston-based band OK Goodnight are at their third album with stop/go, far away from your typical modern prog or your typical old school prog worshippers. This band feels very authentic and fun to listen to, led by a very impressive and charismatic vocal performance.
Genghis Tron – Signal Fire
June 12 // Relapse Records
When Genghis Tron came back after a long hiatus with Dream Weapon, their new sound alienated a couple of their fans, but gained tons of new ones with sheer quality, myself included. I was eager to get into whatever those guys were cooking up next, and while Signal Fire couldn’t bring the same impact its predecessor did (which was nearly impossible to begin with due to the circumstances), it’s a fantastic continuation of their revitalized artistry.
Diles Que No Me Maten – Escrito en agua
June 12 // Independent
The art rock scene in Mexico is getting hotter and hotter every year, with Guatemalan artist Mabe Fratti being part of that scene with all her collaborations and solo work. Another interesting player there is post-punk/art rock Diles Que No Me Maten, whose new album Escrito en Agua is a fascinating whirlwind of different influences and sounds.
Wiki – Ancient History
June 12 // Wikset Enterprise
A Brief Memoir – A Brief Memoir
June 12 // Rite Field Records
Mary Halvorson & Ambrose Akinmusire – Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings
June 12 // Nonesuch Records
Holland Andrews + Methods Body – Remain
June 12 // Whited Sepulchre Records
Another phenomenal collaboration. I absolutely lost myself within Remain, and every second I got dragged through cascading sequencing and ethereal vocal layers was worth it. This is a sonic experience you won’t forget any time soon, and I will continue to keep my ears out for anything Holland Andrews and Methods Body.
Mon Laferte – Femme Fatale Vol. 2
June 12 // Sony Music
MERC – No On Leaves This Room
June 13 // No Time Records
Angry music by angry people for angry poeple.
Trooper Salute – Tomodachigaimashita
June 17 // Buriki Records
The more time I spend with Trooper Salute‘s new album, the more apparent it becomes how much I missed this kind of music. I used to be obsessed with some sections of Japanese music, mainly math and art rock, but that obsession cooled down quite a bit in recent years. This album re-captured my heart in a swift move with its compelling and beautiful songs, and reminded me that the ember is still gleaming.
If I Die Today – I Felt Nothing
June 19 // Independent
Are you pissed off by the heat? Are you pissed that greed turns people into soulless ghouls who are primarily interested in devouring everything which is good about this world, no matter the consequences? Are you just generally pissed because shit sucks? No worries, at least we got a soundtrack for that.
Warning – Rituals of Shame
June 19 // Relapse Records
Prime sad doom dads show us how it’s done. If there was any doubt about Warning‘s artistic prowess being a thing of the past, Rituals Of Shame enacts exactly that upon us. There is nothing stale about this band, which sounds equally fresh and timeless. Patrick Walker remains the best voice in the genre, and his hopeful wailing carries me to places beyond imagination. Still got it.
MAL CRIADO – Ni Todo La Tierra Entera
June 19 // Tomb Tree Tapes
Impressive debut by this Vancouver-based band. Grindy and very angry powerviolence/skramz with no brakes or moments to breathe – this is just punishingly heavy and desperate music with people yelling.
Quiet Fear – La Tierra Arriba / El Abismo Abajo
June 19 // Iodine Records
One of LA’s finest skramz bands returns with their arguably best material to date. After their fantastic collaboration with Massa Nera, Quiet Fear make their label debut with legendary hardcore curators Iodine Records, which should be reason enough to give this album a spin. Skramz is genre that primarily lives through the energy it conveys, and La Tierra Arriba / El Abismo Abajo is packed to the brim with that.
RUMEUR – à nos mains
June 25 // Coeur sur toi/Araki Records
Sans Froid – Back into the Womb
June 26 // Church Road Records
A band we covered and championed in the past, Sans Froid are now with our friends in Church Road Records and just dropped the best album of their career. If you are looking for a quirky art rock album which feels lighthearted and full of creative and interesting ideas, Back into the Womb is for you.
VERDUN – Abyssal Womb
June 26 // Transcending Obscurity Records
Post-metal is a tough genre to excel in because it’s so easy to simply fulfill a formula and get a decent product in the end. Not a lot of bands go the extra mile to create something outstanding. French quartet VERDUN is one of those rare occasions, charging their bleak, sludgy riffs with charisma and personality.
Amy Rose Mills – i think we’ve met before
June 26 // Fiadh Productions
Primarily known for being part of the force of nature that is Couch Slut, Amy Rose Mills is also a prolific solo artist, and her new album is just further proof of that. Dabbling with droney, ambient folk and awesome, surprisingly accessible songwriting, this album reminds me of despair and gloom in the best way possible.
truck violence – The weathervane is my body
June 26 // The Flenser
solace in bloom – Glass Minds, Stellar Thoughts
June 27 // Independent
