After releasing three albums under the This Charming Man label, The Moth are making their debut on Exile On Mainstream with Frost. The band has refined their straightforward approach to sludge/doom metal by adding some catchy new rhythms with ethereal vocals and a hypnotic atmosphere. Today we’re happy to present the first song that exemplifies this evolution, “Dust.” If you’re a fan of Brutus and bands that occupy that space, this is the jam for you. Check out the brand new track and the official video below!
Frost came to life in a mere 24-hour live recording session, expertly captured and mixed by José Lorenzo at Bombrec Recording. The finishing touch was added through mastering by Timo Höcke at Die Wellenschmiede. To create an entire album in a single day and do so with a live approach, that speaks to the energy that the band was looking to capture on this album and that feeling is clearly coming through on “Dust.” There’s no replacement for the synergy between band members who are all playing together live and while there are logistical reasons in many cases that this can’t be done these days, it’s always refreshing when a band can make it to the studio at the same time and put that lightning into a bottle.
The hypnotic riffs, somber vocals, and trance-inducing rhythm of this track captures that feeling incredibly on “Dust” and no doubt the rest of Frost which will be available on September 22, 2023. You can head over to their Bandcamp and pre-order the digital edition right now, or if you’re into the physical side of things point your browser to Exile on Mainstream.
