Care to lose yourself in a sonically rich world of musical intrigue and absolute serenity? I hope you answered yes, because music that takes you to a whole new world can be hard to come by nowadays if you don’t know where to look. Think of it like reading a good book, one that allows you to perfectly visualize what you’re reading about and fully immerse yourself in the lore of its fictional world. If you want something like that, you’ll want to check out this Everything Is Noise exclusive premiere of the new Josefin Runsteen single, “BANYAN – Scene V (Air)”.
“BANYAN – Scene V (Air)” is the lead single for Josefin Runsteen‘s debut solo album, HANA – Three Bodies. She is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Sweden who has been involved in many different genres and musical projects. The music on HANA – Three Bodies was composed to be the soundtrack for a Butoh dance group. Butoh is a modern, minimalistic dance style from Japan, and Josefin’s musical reinterpretation/accompaniment of that style couldn’t be any more perfectly suited for it.
Runsteen’s special blend of musical textures heard on “BANYAN – Scene V (Air)” is somewhere between modern classical, electronic, and ambient, ultimately providing this experimental and cinematic experience. The melodramatic violin that opens the piece with the moodiest of soundscapes is as soothing for the soul as it could possibly be, while the swelling electronics that follow remind me heavily of the Water Temple of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, thus providing a lot of nostalgia for me in the best of ways. In addition to the trippy electronic effects, soft vocalizations bounce across your ears and make you feel as if you’re stuck in a weird yet peaceful dream. Josefin has a way of creating incredibly hypnotic soundscapes that never fail to attract my full attention.
If the world that Josefin Runsteen effortlessly creates sounds like something you’d enjoy, HANA – Three Bodies releases on October 6 via PACAYA Records, so be sure to check it out when it drops! Give her Facebook page a follow and stay up to date on her new record, as it is most definitely something you don’t want to miss! Based on how “BANYAN – Scene V (Air)” sounds, I cannot contain my excitement for this piece of music.
