March and early April have been quite a busy time for music this year, and we’ve seen a dizzying amount of releases so far. It’s not only known and notable acts either as smaller projects have been punching well above their weight in 2026. Add IVOIRE to that list, especially if you like your post-metal colored with the soot of a scorched Earth. The new group from Bari, Italy have gifted us another track from their forthcoming debut due out May 8th, and it’s a mammoth of a single sure to impress those who love a no-nonsense beating of one’s inner burdens.
IVOIRE have all the traits one would want from metal in this day and age; a bit of post, doom, sludge, black, you name it. The genre conventions are far from important as they snake through and rattle them, ensuring the means of expression is kept front and center. “Sotto la Cenere” is the second single from Uragano, promising its disdain and severity as soon as you hit play. Luckily, you can do that right now as we invite you to listen to the new single early on EIN below:
‘The track is born from resentment toward oneself and the experience of oppression, standing apart from the rest of the album for its more direct and abrasive nature. Here, nostalgia dissolves, giving way to rage and, ultimately, a form of resignation.’ IVOIRE describe the frankness of the new single above, which translates to ‘beneath the ashes’ in English. If you weren’t pulled under the riptide from the exasperated screams that begin the track, surely the unrelenting force of its glacial riffing has by now. The track moves with the kind of precision an unknowing maelstrom might possess as it devours ships whole. The endless turmoil caused by such a feat also symbolizes an important theme throughout the single and record, which the band offer more thoughts on here:
‘Uragano is a journey through the states of dark mood, a lucid vision rooted in reality that avoids pessimism yet offers no comfort. The alternation of distorted textures and ambient passages reflects inner conflict—a space where tension remains unresolved, exerting its weight, with irregular breaths in the ongoing search for relief.’
“Sotto la Cenere” also features guest musician Fabrizio Cioce of Zolfo who lends some melancholy to the last half of the track with a quieter saxophone outro. After the crushing intensity burning throughout most of the song, the softer dissolve of the ending is an earned resolve and another unexpected surprise looming from the Italian newcomers. I cannot wait to hear what’s waiting for us with Uragano next month, because if it’s anything like the two singles we’ve heard so far, we’re in for a towering post-metal album that will likely keep IVOIRE in conversations come December.
IVOIRE are set to release Uragano independently on May 8th, 2026. If you liked what you’ve heard from the band so far, consider giving them a pre-order on Bandcamp where they have the digital album and CD options available. You can also find the band on Instagram.
