There is something unbelievably enjoyable in hefty walls of sound that are so meticulously crafted that subjecting oneself to them over and over again seems to be the only way to properly appreciate them. You know the vibe, being met with an aural monolith that you first gaze upon in awe, but slowly get the urge to scale it and discover each and every nook and cranny it hides within its confines. Today, you and I are embarking on one such trek.
The Parisian quartet Bank Myna have been sculpting their signature monolith since 2013, founded upon hook-laden post-rock, droning textures, and hazy doom pace. Their new album EIMURIA is slated for an April 25 release in collaboration with Medication Times Records, Araki Records, and Stellar Frequencies, and today we’re glad to bring you the first listen and look at the song “Burn All The Edges”, which you can view in all of its evocative glory from below;
The nine-minute towering work of art wastes no time in enthralling the listener into its confines, as we’re instantly met with repeating chords, seeping ambiance, and the captivating vocals that hover on top of the steadily pulsating rhythm, providing a world of contrasts that’s both colossal in scope yet caressing in execution. The word ‘cathartic’ seems to be often linked to Bank Myna, and especially on “Burn All The Edges”, it’s pretty damn clear why that is.
The kaleidoscopic visual counterpart further emphasizes on the hypnotic nature of the song band, as different shades of red intermingle with complete darkness and bright flashes, dancing in tandem with the contorting structure of the song, matching its pulse and completing the circle of this particular experience. I just keep staring at my screen and hitting play over and over again, and I’m relatively certain you’ll find yourself from the same position in no time.
As said, Bank Myna are releasing their new album (which I may have heard a glimpse of already, and I’ll just add that ffffuuuuuuuuuck what a work of art it is), which you surely don’t want to miss, on April 25 via Medication Times Records, Araki Records and Stellar Frequencies. So without further ado, follow the band on Facebook and Instagram, secure yourself an advanced order for EIMURIA and take their past works for a spin over at their Bandcamp.
