After a wildly difficult year, I think it’s fair to assume that many of us are craving some sense of normalcy. The human experience commonly revolves around defeating adversity and facing daily and unexpected challenges, but in my personal experience, there was an above-average list of things I needed to overcome. Without starting to sound preachy, I must admit that it’s beneficial to look back at the obstacles that I’ve passed, as this helps me feel inspired for future difficulties.
Why discuss the complexities of trials throughout life? Simply put: Norway’s Falkevik has composed one of the most beautiful and motivating pieces of music I’ve heard so far this year, one that successfully tackles the difficulty of vanquishing struggles. The trio’s newest single, “Amplify Me”, is an important reminder that people must harness their inner power to defeat the demons that may be holding them down. The piano-led experimental jazz track also shows the band’s immense talents and songwriting capabilities that come together seamlessly to craft gorgeous and expansive musical textures. Now, the band has a special treat for fans that prefer an accompanying visual medium – today, we at Everything Is Noise are pleased to premiere the new music video for “Amplify Me”!
I have to say up front that I love playthrough videos. In my opinion, they’re the most intimate and engaging way to present music to the listener. It also leaves room for people to explore and interpret the music and lyrics in their own way without being swayed by a video’s storyline or mood. In the example of “Amplify Me”, the feeling of developing strength is present immediately, and the passion from the performers further showcases this. I also think the viola part, played by Ola Kvernberg, is absolutely stunning and adds so much to the serenity of the song. If you are someone that often experiences euphoria and chills from music, this track might just have that effect on you.
If you like what you hear, be sure to stream the track here and check out the band’s previous album, Louder than I’m used to, on Bandcamp! In addition, definitely follow the band on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with any upcoming announcements. Falkevik is a fantastic trio, and I’m certainly excited to hear more from them in the future. “Amplify Me” is exactly what I needed to help me settle into a feeling of relaxation and calmness, and I hope it can do the same for you as well.
