Often the titles of premieres are just shitty wordplay, yet today, I feel it is quite pertinent to the song. Germany has a penchant for churning out excellent post-metal bands, and rýr is no exception. “Trajectory”, the first single off of their upcoming album transient, and the track we are indeed extremely happy to premiere to you today is one that absorbs all your thoughts, sending your mind racing and considering what could be. It is a track and a mood that I personally was desperately yearning for as the days grow shorter, and I think if you’re a fan of post-metal or rock, doom, and cinematic metal, this is going to be a slam dunk for you.
transient is the second album from the band, following their first, left fallow, from 2019. Straight from the off, though, you can hear a significant uptick in quality. “Trajectory” sees the band shift away from using copiuous amounts of echo and reverb to bring their flavour of atmosphere to the table, and move towards a fuller, richer sound that sends you to the skies. Growling yet clean guitar thrums play off against a typical post-rock ascending riff for the opening few minutes, a sombre procession to clear the path for the crushing riffs to follow.
Don’t be fooled, however, by the slowish start, “Trajectory” keeps evolving and twisting, seeing elements used earlier in the song sped up and shaped to up the intensity and pacing of the track, peaking in a great climax. The video plays like a dream alongside the atmospheric post-metal, the gritty and foggy imagery of German roads and public transport like the experiences you have daily and replay in your mind.
rýr‘s new album transient drops on October 28th, through Golden Antenna Records. As usual you can pre-order the album right here! Be sure to follow them on the socials below to keep up to date with this exciting project, and revel in the brilliance of the upcoming album.
