We’re back with a brand new premiere for you and this one is a beauty. Hailing from Lucerne, Switzerland, Cold Reading are an indie/emo act who are releasing a trilogy of EPs through Krod Records. We’re presenting the second in that trilogy titled, Part 2: Present Tense.
This collection of four tracks focuses on living in the proverbial ‘now’ and the pitfalls of focusing outward for too long. The vibrant approach to these themes feels right at home couched in their emotional style. Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it, you can check out the full EP below, get clicking!
There’s nothing quite like the raw power of a good emo track to get me to sit up and pay attention, and the title track, “Present Tense” is a great example of this. The smooth opening, rolling guitars, and potent lyrics make it one of the most memorable songs in this space that I have heard for a while. While their approach is their own and has a modern flair, there is something nostalgic about how Cold Reading interpret this style of music. It’s somewhat reminiscent of early 2000s indie and that’s always a good thing in my book. I love it when listening to music is simultaneously a discovery and a comfort.
