In every metal subgenre there are some unscrupulous characters, but black metal seems to attract a lot of corpspaint-wearing meanies, who, rather than fight against a system they claim to loathe, spend more time punching down at those who are actively repressed. However, art and artists always find a way of holding up a mirror, reflecting ugly, social and cultural behaviors that are running rampant in their scene. This much is especially true for black metal in recent times. For example, Agriculture and Botanist have both been pivotal in challenging what black metal can sound like, and more importantly can stand for, breathing fresh life into a stale concept.

Which brings me on to today’s premiere from Patricidal Black Metal band, ROSA FAENSKAP. The group, whose name roughly translates to ‘Pink Filth‘, are vocal advocates for re-imaging the black metal landscape – ‘swap the corpse paint and sweaty odour of black metal with eyeliner and pride flags’ as the group has been noted saying. And I’m all for it, especially when the musical output is this damn good! Today we have the pleasure of premiering their third single, “Jeg våkner snart” from their upcoming sophomore album, Ingenting Forblir. Have a listen below!

Fusing a glimmering, yet melancholic, shoegaze-y aura with furious, frostbitten tremolo riffing and the energy of the most vehement of hardcore punk, “Jeg våkner snart” is ROSA FAENSKAP’s foray into introspection, while holding true to their activist roots. The group examines the heaviness that weighs on their minds due to the rise of fascism, and the overall downward trajectory that humankind seems to be on. At its core, “Jeg våkner snart” is a towering black metal track, eviscerating and frantic, yet it sways between the realms of twinkly post-rock and dreary doom with easy, yet not teetering too far into either. The band has delved deep to harness a bleaker and darker sound that matches up with depressive themes of the overall album. The singles, so far, have shown the band leaning heavily on their black metal roots creating both a more grandiose, yet more desolate sound. The band provided their own thoughts on “Jeg våkner snart”, saying:

The track is the final taster of their upcoming album Ingenting forblir (“Nothing Lasts”), and the perfect soundtrack for the apocalypse.

In the song, the band describes the ever-growing darkness that takes root in the soul as reality feels more distant, more painful, and more frightening with each passing year. “Jeg våkner snart” is a colossal closing track with a towering, explosive structure, where pounding atmospheric black metal collides with soft, melancholic post-rock.

On days where your mind feels paralyzed by Weltschmerz, and where you feel the world as you know it is meeting its demise, it helps to have a soundtrack for the apocalypse. ROSA FAENSKAP therefore delivers doomsday in musical form.

ROSA FAENSKAP‘s new album, Ingenting forblir, will be released on February 15, 2026, on Fysisk Format. If you enjoyed the song you can check out the previously released singles and pre-order the new album on the band’s Bandcamp!
