You’re Going to Need a Shower After You Hear the Pure Filth That Is Aerosol Jesus’ New Single, “Survive”

With everything going on in the world at this particular moment in time, it’s getting harder and harder to manage each day, as if being an adult wasn’t hard enough already. Life is a massive weight on our shoulders and there is only one thing that gives me the energy to push back and not let myself get crushed under it all; music that is raw, unadulterated savagery. There are few things as sweet as cranking the volume to a slow, broody song that pummels you more than life ever could. The new Aerosol Jesus track, “Survive” is one such beast. It is difficult to explain the sweet satisfaction that we get from music that is just as foul as can be; bonus points if the tempo is incredibly slow-paced as “Survive” is. Hailing from the UK, Aerosol Jesus are a post-sludge band that writes some vile, emotive tunes that’ll be sure to cause your chest to cave in. As if their music wasn’t hard-hitting enough, the lyrical aspect of their music focuses on mental health issues, something that becomes more and more relevant as time passes us by. “Survive” is the title track from their upcoming EP, Survive, which is due on April 23. Survive is something you won’t want to miss.

The first half of “Survive” is slow as can be; the gritty, sinister undertones create such a gloomy atmosphere that’ll have you hooked for days. The ‘less is more’ approach that is utilized in this song certainly does hold true. When done effectively, less is most certainly more. The anguished vocals that seem to narrate the first half of the song guide you through until the song changes gears. Once it does pick up, you’ll almost instantly notice the punk attitude that transforms the song into something completely different, yet still as sludgy and powerful as it was before. It is a fresh change of pace that I wasn’t expecting and only caused me to enjoy the song more than I already did.
