This year is an unstoppable freight train of new music, and it’s often felt like a keep up or catch up start to 2026 so far. Many have their favorites charted out for the coming months as the peak of summer releases begin, but we always find the time to showcase the music that feels most important to put in your hands as soon as possible. The Freqs are the pistons that ignite the engine of potential that smaller acts are bringing this year with a debut album sure to blast louder and prouder than whatever bullshit your coworkers are recommending.

If you aren’t aware, The Freqs are the sludged-out horrorshow of a noise rock trio we’ve come to love and have featured previously for Poachers, a 2023 EP that ripped at the seams of their momentum-driven sound. The wait for a full length delivering as monstrously as their previous works in a larger framework was well worth it, as the nightmare-fueled singles “John Travolta” and “Chainsawman” respectively delivered equal doses of passionate rage earlier this year. No God on the Gold Coast is the ticking time bomb set to release on May 29th through Gum Cuzzler Records, a label destined to match the fleshed-out fun the group has to offer. It wouldn’t be EIN if we didn’t set the fuse off early though, and we’re maliciously delighted to present their full album nice and early for you freaks below:

Guitarist/vocalist Seth Crowell states:

‘We’re big proponents of listening to an album from start to finish, so with No God on the Gold Coast, we incorporated a lot of samples and connecting loops. Several of these samples before and after songs were actually happy accidents originating from radio interference picked up by my faulty guitar pickup. We heard all these voices and broken sounds bleeding through between takes and decided they needed to stay. Listening to this record really puts the listener in the room with us when we recorded it.’

I mean freaks endearingly if one could, but I imagine this album evoking joy for the same people who clapped and laughed through the third act of The Substance or revel in authentic B-horror bliss. It is a chaosphere of hissing feedback and uncut static that underlies a focused maximalist intensity with only one guitar, bass, and drums that pines for the simple pleasure of frantic energy. It has the raw, unrelenting will of a small group punching well above its weight in the same vein Raimi found in his Evil Dead series, packaged through the bad habits of your favorite rock band. The Freqs are thrilling fun, however, and are focused on finding enjoyment through the noise which is one of their standout qualities both on record and live.

If you need a mid-week pick-me-up, do exactly as the band stated above and rip through this album front to back and tell me you don’t feel something. Eight songs of no-nonsense music that will scare the living shit out of your speakers and local wildlife when listened at the inappropriate decibel level. We can’t say enough good things about The Freqs, and they’ve sure enough earned their title with No God on the Gold Coast. The album will be independently released digitally, on CD, and cassette through Gum Cuzzler Records on May 29th. Be sure to pre-order on their Bandcamp, as well as follow The Freqs on Instagram and Facebook as they chart out tour dates to support the release this summer.
