May time be ever in your favor. Let the slow moments of life be a refuge from the din of modernity. We are in a constant struggle to process new information every second, from advertisements, political and culture war soundbites, memes, TikTok and reels, social media, and the mounting global catastrophes. Our attention is a premium that entities across the globe are eager to snatch up. So, while the irony is not lost on me, let me vie for that precious attention with something that may calm and give us all a moment to slow down and meditate. Just breathe and listen to the first single, “Wings At The Precipice” by Rūmĭnor, a brand new ambient/neo-classical/post-rock project from Australia.

Formed by Namzu, Sam Haven, and Saleeha via mutual admiration for each other’s work, Rūmĭnor merge experimental composition, guitar work, and electronic compositions into a unified soundscape. “Wings At The Precipice” evokes glimmers of radiance amongst slow burn melodies and haunting drones. It is easy to imagine this being the soundtrack to an uncertain next step looking over the cliffside of the continental divide, clouds rising up before you, immense depth below, and the nimble alertness of every nerve as you traverse the mountain. The subtle guitar work is gorgeous, keeping the track moving through the mysterious unfolding of each new chord and shift in synths.

Rūmĭnor gave themselves parameters in the writing and recording of their debut album, Flew Mirrored On The Water, specifically written to be recorded at Australia’s Frying Pan Studios located within the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania. An act of inspired forethought, planning for a specific space, engineer, and sound let’s each element truly shine on a good pair of headphones. You can hear the care that was taken in each note. Rūmĭnor says of the track:

“Wings at the Precipice,” the opening track of our debut album Flew Mirrored on the Water, holds a special place as it embodies the genesis of our journey together as a band. Emerging from the first riffs written for the project, this song not only sets the tone for the entire album with its ethereal soundscapes and emotive depth but also symbolizes our shared musical exploration and growth. With its intertwining melodies and atmospheric textures, “Wings at the Precipice” captures the essence of our early creative sparks, reflecting our collective vision.

Flew Mirrored On The Water will undoubtedly be outstanding music to slow the rapid pace of the zeitgeist. Pre-orders are available here. Be sure to follow Rūmĭnor on Instagram, Facebook, and Bandcamp, as well!
