I have, to my knowledge, never encountered the concept of a video album thus far over the course of my soon-to-be 31 years on this beautiful blue pearl we call home. So it’s easy to imagine my intrigue when I read about All Are To Return engaging in such a release strategy. The enigmatic duo have set out to infuse their already portent music with even more purpose, and from what I can gather, their approach is paying off quite immensely.
As a small side-note, this is an act we at Everything Is Noise have some history with: we first premiered a track off their last EP AATR II, and then went on to review the whole thing. Their noise-ridden dronescapes have rightfully caught our collective ear (yes, we all share one; it’s quite the sight when we congregate), and today’s object of attention is no different.
“The Veil” comes as the conclusion of the quadrilogy All Are To Return have set up for their ardent followers. You can have a go at the other three parts by following this link. Ominous red hues paint a picture of intense dread and anxiety as the sounds conjured by F (instruments, vocals, FX) and N (synths, FX) howl past your ears like a storm of sublimated fear; snippets of text are presented without a voice to hold on to. There is not an ounce of comfort to be found in this desolate mass of sound.
The name All Are To Return bestowed upon their latest project is līmen, and it was officially released on February 27. As I mentioned earlier, it consists of four videos for the four EP tracks, which I find to be a very immersive and creative way of distributing music in this day and age. The link that throws you right into these particular cold waters have already been provided above; the question is, will you heed their beckoning call?
You can check out (and potentially purchase) the duo’s past music on Bandcamp. They also have an official merch shop over at Tartarus Records. For all other things pertaining to All Are To Return, you might want to peruse their website.
