It’s always exciting for us to premiere debut efforts from bands with great potential this early in their career. Although having released a couple of tracks two years prior, Münster-based indie pop act Maitland are to properly showcase what they got with their upcoming first record Falling Into Place, and Everything Is Noise is more than happy to premiere its first single, “Einstein Rosen-Bridge” – a gloomy yet driving dark indie pop cut accompanied by a kaleidoscopic music video that elicits sheer bittersweet escapism.

Named after the theoretical concept of wormholes developed by Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen, “Einstein Rosen-Bridge” presents itself with post-punk swiftness, immediately cutting through with bright guitars and rich, morose vocals that are soaring as much as they are sharp and gravelly. Refrains like ‘cross that bridge when you come to me‘, ‘be my silence, be my routine‘ and ‘be my barbiturate, be my friend, the end’ echo throughout the song, aptly recalling its title as the band seems to give in to feelings of yearning and a incessant desire to transcend space and time for some semblance of connection.

The music video (directed by Intissar Belaid and Moritz Hagedorn) is a lovely complement to the song. It seems to unravel a loose narrative about the intoxicating thrills of the chase, using footage shots of rushes of waves and forests in motion blur juxtaposed with moments of stillness through scenes like folks in a harbor gazing towards the open sea. Its collage-esque presentation is evocative but also messy, kind of in the same vein as losing yourself in the recollection of memories as a means to crave for proximity – frenzied, full of longing, and even appealing to the surreal, evident by various shots of UFOs abducting and nonchalantly flying by.

Keen, captivating, and impassioned, “Einstein Rosen-Bridge” is a strong first impression by Maitland. If you like your indie pop moody and a bit The Smiths-coded, but with some fire and gruff to the songwriting, then this one’s really a no-brainer.

As mentioned, “Einstein Rosen-Bridge” is the first single off Maitland‘s upcoming debut full-length album Falling Into Place, one that ‘blends driving indie rhythms, melancholic pop melodies, and atmospheric post-rock influences into a cohesive and deeply personal sound‘. The record is planned to be released via My Ruin Records on fall of 2025 – make sure to follow their Instagram and Bandcamp pages for any future updates.
