If you’re a regular Everything Is Noise gremlin, you might have a vague memory of Odeur, a Finnish purveyor of all things drone, ambient, and post-rock, premiering their first single for their debut album with us in March of last year. Seeing as the hypnotic warbly ambient tapestry that was Voyage au paradis des champignons was so well-received, it’s about time for more, wouldn’t you say?
Well, lucky for you, it’s been less than 365 days since their last release and Odeur are already releasing their newest album, Amore Falso! Not only that, though – we are premiering it today!
Odeur’s Amore Falso (or ‘false love’ for those not cultured enough to speak Italian) is a strong and refined follow up to last year’s release. There is a noticeable progression from the ambient wallpaper of Voyage as paradis des champignons to more guitar-forward post-rock elements of Amore Falso. With the addition of haunting vocals and spoken word performances from Alisa Aaltonen, this feels like an artist that has added further musical tools to their ambient toolbox.
Amore Falso is essentially a concept album following the story of a love slowly coming to a tumultuous end. Atmospheric, eerie, and beautifully expressive, Odeur has put together an ethereal auditory experience that is soul-stirring and hypnotic. Not unexpectedly, this is one of those albums you best experience in full while walking alongside a river bank or, equally, lying on a shag carpet allowing the music to flow around you. Sit back, relax, enjoy.

The album, Amore Falso, is out on February 22 through Machine Tribe Recordings. Give Odeur a gander on Facebook and stay up to date with their goings on, if that’s your thing.
