For people in my line of work — obsessive music nerds — October is usually the strongest month of the year in terms of releases, so FOMO is always lurking at the back of our minds. Thankfully, I’ve never had an issue with FOMO. For me, this past month has been like being showered in cute puppies — it’s just pure enjoyment! This is probably the longest episode of THE NOISE OF, because October 2025 was amazing.
Kelly Moran – Don’t Trust Mirrors
October 1 // Warp Records
Yerin Baek – Flash and Core
October 2 // People Like Poeple
Yerin Baek is an artist who consistently brings a fresh perspective to her work, and with each new release, there is always something new to discover. I’m glad that Western music coverage is giving more recognition to Korean and Japanese pop music that isn’t your typical J-Pop/K-Pop. I’m doing my part (try not to think of Starship Troopers while reading that).
Pain Magazine – Violent God
October 3 // Humus Records
By now, it should be obvious to check out anything involving Birds in Row. Gris Klein is one of the best hardcore-adjacent albums in recent years, and their collaboration with Coilguns was amazing. Now, the band has teamed up with the industrial/techno duo Maelstrom and Louisahhh for this album. There’s nothing else like it out there — it’s very special.
Ea Othilde – I Will Not Be Like That
October 3 // Independent
Unfortunately, I’ve barely seen any coverage of that album in the music press, which is understandable. October is packed with releases, and smaller releases without a large PR budget find it hard to stand out. If you’re interested in fantastically written indie, make sure to check out Ea Othilde‘s wonderful new album.
Agriculture – The Spiritual Sound
October 3 // The Flenser
This was highly anticipated, especially after seeing those guys support Chat Pile earlier this year. This forward-thinking black metal, approved by The Flenser, is some of the best this year and further proof that Agriculture are one of the most interesting bands in the genre.
Totorro – Sofa So Good
October 3 // Independent
I’m not sure if it’s on me or on the genre itself, but math rock has become rather stale in recent years. There are only a few releases every year which are noteworthy, so my heart bursted of joy when I put on the new Totorro. There is nothing super original going on here, it’s just so damn well made.
NAUFRAAGE – Les Déferlantes
October 3 // Tomb Tree Tapes
LITE – The Beyond
October 3 // Independent
Huh, that backfired. I was talking about how math rock is becoming stale, and now we’ve already got the second spot here. To be fair, it’s by LITE, who are veterans of the genre and similar to Totorro. It’s just an EP for now, but I hope they’ll release a full album soon because I’m very excited for the band’s next chapter.
Grief Mop – I Want to Pull the Sleep From Your Eyes
October 9 // Sunday Drive Records
The Antlers – Blight
October 10 // Transgressive
Peter Silberman is a wizard. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time — he’s released some fantastic solo albums, and his work with The Antlers is always worth checking out. The project has a new album out, and I can confidently say that it is their best work yet and some of the finest music in Peter Silberman’s discography.
Greyhaven – Keep It Quiet
October 10 // Solid State Records
Blindfolded And Led To The Woods – The Hardest Thing About Being God Is That No One Believes Me
October 10 // Prostethic Records
I know I’m prone to exaggeration, but hear me out: those guys are one of the best modern extreme metal bands around right now. With each album, I became more convinced of this, and I particularly like the darker tone of The Hardest Thing About Being God Is That No One Believes Me.
Snakeskin – We live in sand
October 10 // Beacon Sound/Ruptured Records
Gab Ferreira – Carrossel
October 10 // DVLPMNT/Balaclava Records
It wasn’t a conscious decision, but Latin American pop music has been featured more frequently in these articles in recent years, especially this year. I love vocals in Spanish or Portuguese, and many of these pop acts use interesting rhythms inspired by the variety of Latin American music. I appreciate this trend. Take Gab Ferrerira, for example.
Vangas – You Left Us In The Spring
October 10 // Chunklet Industries
I quite like albums that make you feel claustrophobic. It’s like walls are caving in and there’s nothing you can do about it. They press into your head and your mind, and you want more. It doesn’t sound healthy, but I just can’t bring myself to turn it off. This stuff is fucking intense.
Laura Jurd – Rites & Revelations
October 17 // New Soil
For a long time, I felt that, while the London jazz scene was very strong and unique, it was just a bunch of awesome musicians playing in each other’s projects. However, the more I delve into the scene, the more impressed I am by all the different facets it encompasses, such as Laura Jurd, who is renowned for her work with the band Dinosaur and has now released her phenomenal new album, Rites & Revelations, which is one of the best jazz albums of the year. And yes, I say this all the time. I’m enthusiastic — deal with it!
they are gutting a body of water – LOTTO
October 17 // ATO
POLIÇA – Dreams Go
October 17 // Memphis Industries
Thosar – The Bold Idea Of Being Satisfied
October 17 // grazil Records
Silvana Estrada – Vendrán Suaves Lluvias
October 17 // Glassnote Records
Do you remember when I talked about my growing love for Latin American pop? October brought more of the same, with the beautiful chamber pop of Silvana Estrada, spiced up with elements of Mexican folk music, being particularly notable. Vendrán Suaves Lluvias is also absolutely gorgeous.
Chini.png – ★ Vía Lo Orozco ★
October 23 // Sello Fisura
Shedfromthebody – Everything Out There Has Teeth
October 23 // Independent
The Finnish one-woman project Shedfromthebody is a regular on THE NOISE OF — in fact, her last album featured in an episode earlier this year. Everything Out There Has Teeth continues her trademark doomgaze sound, but everything feels a bit warmer and more earthy, with hints of folk. It’s great to see this progression in her work.
PARLOR – TEARS FOR EVERYTHING
October 24 // Source Atone Records
Yazmin Lacey – Teal Dreams
October 24 // AMF Records
Conjurer – Unself
October 24 // Nuclear Blast
A couple of years ago, Conjurer caused an uproar in the UK underground metal scene with the release of Mire. After signing with Nuclear Blast, I felt that the band had lost some of their mojo in exchange for a more accessible sound. However, I’m happy to say that they’re back on track with their latest release, Unself. By embracing their post-metal influences more fully, Conjurer have breathed new life into their music with Unself.
R.A.P. Ferreira & Kenny Segal – The Night Green Side of It
October 24 // Alpha Pop
Rory Ferreira aka R.A.P. Ferreira (formerly known as milo) and producer Kenny Segal have been working together for a long time, creating some of the best modern hip-hop music, including the album So the Flies Don’t Come. They’ve worked together on and off over the years, and I’m glad they’ve finally released something with both their names on the cover. Once again, their chemistry is undeniable.
Rolo Tomassi – In the Echo of All Dreams
October 24 // MRNK Heavy
Well, hello there! It’s a pleasant surprise that Rolo Tomassi are back with new music, and it’s very promising. I didn’t vibe that much with When Myth Becomes Memory after the looming shadow of Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It, but this new EP has given me an appetite for more.
СОЮЗ – KROK
October 24 // MR BONGO
I can’t say I’ve heard anything like this in 2025, especially not of this quality. СОЮЗ is a Belarusian duo which plays an infectious and very intimate version of jazzy art pop, and it’s one of those releases which shows you that there is fantastic music absolutely fucking everywhere.
BLACKSHAPE – Prismer I
October 24 // Independent
Holy Basil – songs for the smother party
October 24 // Independent
This is a sweet little emo/skramz gem by this charming Portland-based trio. It’s not particularly special or unique, but it gets everything right.
Mon Laferte – FEMME FATALE
October 24 // Sony Music Latin
This is so cool! Canción Melódica, a term which describes sentimental and sometimes kitsch songs sung in Spanish, is a relatively obscure genre, mostly because it was popular in the ’70s and hasn’t seen much development since then. I’m happy that Mon Laferte is reviving this sound in such an extraordinary way.
Sunken – Lykke
October 24 // Eisenwald
Blinder – Heatseeker
October 28 // Independent
What makes this episode especially motivating is the number of releases that feel unique and special. Hailing from Pittsburgh, the experimental noise rock band Blinder mixes dreamy bedroom pop with bursts of gritty punk. Awesome stuff!
ff8282 – a thin membrane between her hands
October 30 // 4000 Rcords
We all need a bit of ambient music in our lives, and since this episode is a bit light on that front, here we go. ff8282 is a project by Australian artist April Emily, which enriches its ambient core with triumphant swells and tricky glitches.
Kias. – Swatantra
October 30 // Dog Knights Productions
Believe in Nothing – Rot
October 31 // Church Road Records
Massa Nera – The Emptiness Of All Things
October 31 // Persistent Vision Records
I was eagerly awaiting a new Massa Nera album, and when I heard that The Emptiness of All Things had been released on Persistent Vision, I knew it was going to be good. This is the best you can get in the slightly above underground skramz genre, and Massa Nera are one of the best bands in it for a reason.
Chat Pile and Hayden Pedigo – In The Earth Again
October 31 // The Flenser/Computer Students
Primitive Man – Observance
October 31 // Relapse Records
Fainting Dreams – You Can Be Anything
October 31 // Softseed Music
Witch Fever – FEVEREATEN
October 31 // Music for Nations
IRIS OUT – Victual Vittle Bottle Cunt
October 31 // Recital
This is good stuff — very haunted and gloomy, but I like it.
Hilary Woods – Night CRIÚ
October 31 // Sacred Bones Records
Derek Baron – The Holy Restaurant
October 31 // Recital
Hey! Maybe I should check out more stuff on Recital? This episode features the second album by them, which consists of weird electroacoustic sound collages by Derek Baron. It’s a super interesting album — take a listen! Don’t be put off by the Skyrim theme — stuff like that happens all the time in here.
Anna von Hausswolff – ICONOCLASTS
October 31 // YEAR0001
Júlia Colom – Paradís
October 31 // La Castanya
Thanks for scrolling.
