King of electronic funk Opiuo already dropped a new EP on us this year, but decided to double down on records in 2018 by releasing his performance from Red Rocks as a live album today. This special show at the incredible Australian amphitheatre took his signature funk glitch sound and combined it with a live orchestra, adding a new and unbelievably captivating layer to his already outstanding solo work. The record rolled out today on Opiuo‘s own label Slurp Records and is aptly titled Opiuo x Syzygy Orchestra Live At Red Rocks.

The process has taken Opiuo – the brainchild of New Zealander Oscar Davey-Wright – six months, four recording studios and three months of mixing to bring to our aural palettes, and it’s every bit as exciting as one would expect. The record is constructed of seven movements from the live show, which combine multiple songs from across his broad discography into extra long tracks. These longer offerings bring exciting twists to the original music that in its base form is already a funk-laden adventure. The addition of the orchestra is majestic, adding more dub to the reggae-influenced songs and plugging gaps where electronic glitches would’ve been with beautiful violins.

Available on all major streaming platforms today, and with vinyl pressings of the LP available in the coming months, this is one you should not be missing out on. Hit up the splash landing page for all the options here and pick up a copy of the vinyl on his website. Of course, he’s also on Facebook too.
